Street Farm Barns, Finchingfield
We purchased Street farm barns in July 03. The site comprised of three grade two listed barns and a Medieval Bake House. After resolving extensive planning and listed issues the project was completed in twenty-one months. The Barns themselves were in relatively good condition but due to the close proximity to the river they required lifting up by 1.2 Meters to ensure there would never be any risk of flooding.
We lifted each barn individually in one week with a total of thirty, 5 tonne jacks.
Each barn once completed offered approximately 3000 square feet of living accommodation, including five bedrooms, three bathrooms Living room, Dinning room, kitchen and gallery. In addition to the living accommodation each barn had a double bay cart lodge, office and work shop space.
The Medieval Bake House was converted into a three-bedroom cottage, with two bathrooms, living room dinning room, kitchen and utility. The cottage is complete with original inglenook fireplace, bread oven and washing copper. Due to the nature and age of the building many traditional building practices were included in the conversion. Wattle and daub panels were repaired and renewed. All external cement render was removed and replaced with traditional oak lath and lime render, and all brickwork laid with lime mortar.
With in two years of purchasing a collection of run down and unsightly barns in the heart of the picturesque village of Finchingfield we transformed them in to three very unique houses, but retained all of their charm and character.
Brynbank Farm Barns
Brynbank farm barns are situated in the village of Poslingford and enjoy fantastic views over the Historic village of Clare. We purchased the site in February 2006, which comprises of four grade two listed barns.
The first barn completed in January 2007 featuring quality finishes and fittings and is now occupied.
The second barn is due for completion in May 07 and is currently offered on the market for £575,000.00. Barn 2 comprises of four bedrooms, three bathrooms, Living room, dinning hall, kitchen, utility and office/storage space. It has a single cart lodge and parking for up to four cars and sits in approximately two thirds of an acre.
The two remaining barns are still in the planning stage but we look forward to offering these for sale in the summer of this year.
Tinkers Green Farm
We were asked to look at a scheme for a very long-standing customer of D M D.
After consultation with the client and architect we were able to obtain planning permission for a single story extension to the existing grade two-listed cottage. The new addition gave the client a new utility room and entrance hall and a large double vaulted orangery.
Within the roof structure of the orangery we constructed new oak trusses and combined these with four reclaimed oak beams, which were supplied by the client.
In addition to the extension we also constructed a new three bay garage with living accommodation above, and converted an existing barn into a snooker room.
